Abstract

This paper deals with the optimization of 2D finite element shapes using the very promising methods based on genetic algorithms. The codification of the design variables is carried out by generating series of strings in binary code. Classical genetic operators such as crossover, mutation and reproduction are used for the optimization process. A more refined operators needed to improve the performance of the process are used as well. Some illustrative examples are presented and discussed
