Abstract

The NiCrAlY based coatings were used in most of the high temperature atmospheric conditions. This is due to their higher resistant erosion at high temperature. The NiCrAlY powder is coated along with nano B4C particles and cenosphere. The MDN 321 steel is selected as the substrate material due to its area of application in turbine manufacturing. The composite coating was made by plasma spray coating technique. The influence of insertion of nano B4C particle concentration along with NiCrAlY and cenosphere is carried out. Further, effect of erosive wear parameters viz., impact angle and erodent temperature on NiCrAlY composite coating studied. The morphology and composition study of the composite coating was made by scanning electron microscope with energy dispersive spectroscopy. The volume loss is found to minimum with higher B4C particle concentration of 20% at 60° of impact angle. It is also found with higher resistance to high temperature erodent at the speed of 30 m/s.
