Abstract

In many fields of science and research, controllable uniform magnetic field is a key requirement. The classical way of generation of uniform magnetic field is from Helmholtz coil. Helmholtz coil produces uniform magnetic field for very small volume of occupied space. However in case of Marine applications like deperming, the volume of uniform magnetic field required is very long which cannot be acquired using Helmholtz coils due to constructional impediments. Also the degree of uniformity plays a critical role for deperming of Marine vessels. This paper proposes a mathematical optimization technique based on Mclaurian Series to design optimum geometrical placement and ampere turns requirement of each coil for the generation of higher degree homogeneous magnetic field. The positions and ampere turn ratio so obtained provide more feasibility in design of the system. The system proposed has better design parameters as compared to the conventional systems. The analytical results are compared with finite element simulation results using MATLAB and OPERA software.
