Abstract

The strength of a sheet metal joint prepared using polymer bond depends on various parameters. The aim of this work is to experimentally investigate the effects of parameters considered on the joint strength of double lap joint and to find out the optimal factor combination to increase the joint strength. The results show that adhesive layer thickness, overlap length and surface roughness influence the joint strength. Adhesive layer thickness with a contribution of 60.52 % was the most significant factor followed by overlap with a contribution of 31.94 % and surface roughness with 6.42%. The type of cleaning agent was the least significant factor.
