Abstract
In current paper, medium carbon microalloy steel is selected for systematically carrying out the soft reduction tests, a set of conventional process which doesn’t apply soft reduction technology is arranged to compare. Taking into account of both the etched results and the carbon segregation distributions along the thickness direction, it is found that influence of soft reduction process is so effective that central segregation of strands significantly decrease. Internal defects including central segregation, porosity and internal crack are comprehensively considered, the optimum soft reduction parameters are the total reduction amount (TRA) of 5mm, the solid fractions between 0.2 and 0.5, and the corresponding reduction zone of 6∼7segments.
