Abstract

A rigorous optimisation has been carried out for the mould region of the continuous caster, using genetic algorithms, differential evolution, simulated annealing, and the traditional steepest descent method. The optimised predictions of some important casting parameters such as negative strip time, flux pool depth, and vitrification ratio are compared with current industrial practice.
