Abstract

The problem of planar-, spherical- and spatial-linkage optimization for exact function generation using a free parameter was solved elsewhere. Solved in this paper is the said problem for the case in which the synthesis equations give rise to an overdetermined linear system of equations, i.e. one for which the synthesis equations is greater than that of unknowns. The method presented here allows the computation of the linkage parameters that not only approximate the synthesis equations with the least-square error, but also extremize an objective function representing a performance index of the linkage.
