Abstract

This paper describes an optimal tuning method for swing reduction of a gondola lift by an inclined pendulum-type dynamic absorber. The behavior of two fixed points of the inclined pendulum-type dynamic absorber attached to a pendulum-type main system is investigated. As a result it is found that optimal tuning can be obtained by choosing certain values of the inertia and natural frequency ratio of the dynamic absorber to the main system. It is also found that the maximum value of the dynamic amplification factor can be decreased to a satisfactory value, which is less than 10, using an inclined pendulum-type dynamic absorber whose dimensions are acceptable in practice. Theoretical results are confirmed by experiment.
