Abstract

A general approach for the control of the transverse mode characteristics of waveguide array lasers is proposed, based on the discrete Fourier transform. This allows the design of intracavity spatial frequency filters which have, for example, 100% transmission of the lowest-order transverse mode (which has a uniform amplitude distribution) and zero transmission of all higher-order modes.
