Abstract

There are several influences on sleep during middle age, including natural reductions in sleep quantity, quality, efficiency, and ability. Chronic medical and psychiatric disorders may disrupt sleep. Several sleep disorders are very common during middle age, including obstructive sleep apnea and restless legs syndrome. Family, work, and financial responsibilities may lead to neglect of good sleep and health habits. Menopause is associated with greater sleep difficulty in women due to several reasons. Educating the middle-aged population about sleep disorders, sleep and lifestyle habits, and the effects of all of these on sleep quality, quality of life, and health is essential.
