Abstract

We consider the problem of finding the shape of two-dimensional and axisymmetric bodies having minimal wave drag in a supersonic perfect gas flow. The solution is sought among bodies having attached shock waves. The limitations on the body contour are arbitrary: these constraints may be body dimensions, volume, area, etc. Such problems with arbitrary isoperimetric conditions may be solved by the method suggested in [1, 2]. This method involves the use of the exact equations of gasdynamics which describe the flow as additional constraints. This method was developed further in [3–6] in the solution of several problems.
