Abstract

Suppose that a coherent multicomponent system generates revenue while it is working and that its components are independent to each other and have constant failure rates. When the system stops working its components can be inspected one at a time, and if necessary replaced or repaired, until the system is restored to its original (operating) state. This paper presents a heuristic approach for constructing optimal adaptive strategies for inspecting and repairing such general coherent systems. >
