Abstract

The problem of optimal reactive power dispatch (ORPD) is one of the major problems in power system planning and operation to maintain stability and improve the efficiency of the system. The solution to this problem helps in reducing the power losses in the transmission lines and improving the voltage stability of the system. Thus, it contributes towards a more economic and secure system. The load demand drastically changes every hour in the system and hence, the practical study of ORPD cannot be considered for fixed load. Thus, the uncertainty of load is considered in this paper to solve the ORPD problem, as the consideration of load variation is necessary for the power system planning. The problem is solved as a single objective problem where the objectives such as the minimization of power losses and voltage deviation in the buses are considered one at a time for IEEE 30 and 57-bus systems using JAYA algorithm. The results obtained from the simulation were compared with those from different other already developed and widely used optimization techniques. The comparison of the results proved the superiority of the proposed algorithm amongst others in solving the ORPD problem under load uncertainty.
