Abstract

This paper proposes a Markov Decision Process model for calculation of an optimal policy, for under frequency load shedding problem. Major innovation in the modeling of the problem, is the incorporation of opinion dynamics model for calculation of the transition probabilities involved. The idea is to make use of the correlation amongst the trends, in the usage of electricity by neighboring areas. The resulting decision based on the Markov decision process is proactive in nature. The grid configuration is adjusted to the optimal value in order to minimize the chances of frequency drop. The process involved in the development of the model has been explained in the paper along with a simulation-based case study for the demonstration of the implemented method. The results of the case study indicate effective management, of the power system. A comparison of the proposed method with the latest multiagent based methods has been presented; major advantages of the proposed approach over the existing ones have been highlighted.
