Optimal PMU Placement by Improved Cuckoo & PSO Method

Abstract

Optimal PMU placement is the process to find optimal number of PMU and its optimal placement to ensure full observability of Power System. In this paper, we propose two methods for finding Optimal Placement of Phasor Measurement Unit (PMU); Particle Swarm Optimisation & Cuckoo optimisation algorithms in improved form. Proposed methods are classified as topological approach. A binary search algorithm of proposed methods is used to find Optimal PMU Placement (OPP). OPP by proposed methods are applied on different networks of IEEE 14, 24, 30 and 57 buses, and the output of these two methods are compared.
