Abstract

This paper presents the optimization of system loadability and installation cost of Flexible AC Transmission devices. The FACTS device chosen for this work is UPFC. The problem is formulated in the form of an algorithm that is framed such that both the objectives i.e., maximization of the loadability of the network along with the minimum expense of installation of the FACTS device in a standard IEEE 30 bus system. A recently developed swarm based algorithm named as Salp Swarm Optimization has been used for the same.
