Abstract

This Paper presents a new methodology for the optimal placement of Independent power producer (IPP) based on Locational marginal pricing (LMP) calculation for congestion management in transmission network also with the objective of social welfare maximization. LMP is determined as the Lagrangian multiplier of the power balance equation in Optimal Power Flow (OPF) using PSO. The LMP signal serves as the economic signal in electricity market. This analysis explains how LMP calculation is performed at each node to locate the spots of congestion and how the congestion is alleviated by connecting the IPP at the congested spot in order to maximize the social welfare. The location of IPP at a bus is identified by the ranking of LMP. The proposed methodology is demonstrated on IEEE-30 bus system and Indian utility 69 bus system.
