Abstract

Medium Voltage Direct Current (MVDC) power distribution system enables higher power density with enhanced power control. Optimal operation of the MVDC power distribution system is essential to enable efficient power and energy usage in the tightly coupled and power limited systems. In this work, a Newton based optimal operation algorithm is developed for the multi-terminal VSC based MVDC power distribution system, which minimizes the operating costs over multiple periods by effectively coordinating generators, energy storages and VSCs, and also implements preventive/corrective actions for managing load changes and credible contingencies.
