Abstract

The emerging technologies based on 5G such as fixed wireless access, mobile edge computing, and device-to-device communication have common properties. These networks can be managed privately, are comprised of just a single or two hops, and have high bandwidth and bit errors. These properties drive not only the needs but also the possibilities to optimize TCP maximum transmission unit (MTU) size. In this paper, we derive the closed-form optimal MTU size and propose the optimal MTU selection scheme. Through the numerical evaluations, we show that the higher the bit error rate, the higher the performance gains.
