Abstract

This paper presents an optimization method for sizing a standalone PV system by considering improved PV array model, dynamic storage battery model, and realistic objective function. The loss of load probability is used to define the availability level of the system. Different PV/battery configurations with different availability levels are generated using the proposed numerical algorithm. These configurations are evaluated based on system availability and cost. Hourly metrological and load demand data are used in this research. The result shows that the optimal sizing ratio of the PV array (CA) is 1.184, while the sizing ratio for battery (CB) is 0.613 and the levelized cost of energy for the unit generated by the proposed system is 0.447 $/kWh.
