Abstract

This paper presents the optimal mode selection of disparity-compensated (DC) wavelet lifting in a multi-view image coding framework. The optimal mode is a combination of macroblock (MB) coding and block partitioning mode of DC wavelet lifting. There are seven coding and seven MB partitioning modes, totally 49 modes to be selected. Rate distortion optimization is used as a tool to determine the optimal mode of DC wavelet lifting. The residue error from DC wavelet lifting is compressed by SPIHT codec. The experimental results of the proposed scheme show the PSNR improvement up to 1.3 dB at the same compression ratio over 5/3 DC wavelet lifting and even more comparing to Haar DC wavelet lifting without applying optimal mode selection.
