Abstract

This paper presents a new energy management framework based on Energy Price Tag (EPT) of connected energy storage systems to address the challenges of daily energy management in presence of intermittencies. In the proposed strategy, during the occurrence of an unpredicted intermittency, the energy management system compensates the resulting energy imbalance by distributing the stored energy based on the EPT of energy storage systems. When intermittency is over, the energy management system updates the future operating points of the system based on new conditions. The effectiveness of the proposed framework is examined on an energy management system for a typical smart building over a 24-h time frame and the results are compared with a baseline strategy that does not consider EPT in management of intermittencies. The comparison of results validates the effectiveness of the proposed strategy in cost effective energy scheduling of smart building components during and after the occurrence of intermittencies.
