Abstract

In this paper, a hybrid renewable energy system to supply a new city is proposed, by integrating between PV modules, wind turbine generators (WTGs) and conventional power generation (CPG). The reliability of this integration is studied according to the condition of load and generation in new city. The optimal power system planning enormous important challenges as the future growth of load in this city. The load forecasting of the new city is calculated using an artificial technique such as particle swarm optimization technique (PSO). The impact of this integration between PV modules, WTGs and CPG on the reliable operation of the electrical network is introduced. A proposed optimal procedure is applied using the PSO to design the optimal hybrid PV/Wind systems to have more minimum cost and high reliability operation. This procedure is carried out according to two stages. In the first stage, the load demand of new city is accurate predicted to know the amount of energy required. In the second stage, the energy output from the hybrid generation system is estimated according to the economical and technical considerations. The impact of hybrid generation system on economical, technical and reliable operation of electrical grid is applied to New Borg El-Arab city in Egypt.
