Abstract

The paper presents a three-phase power flow modelization: A tool for optimal location and control of FACTS devices in unbalanced power systems. The results obtained from single-phase power systems may be unrealistic and could not be able to characterize accurately the voltage stability problem of unbalanced power systems. In order to assess and investigate the importance of the three-phase power flow model proposed, a three-phase SVC model is implemented to regulate and control the reactive power injected or absorbed in the unbalanced three-phase power systems. It is strongly recommended that before location and implementation of new FACTS devices, a three-phase load flow modelling and study be made to find the best performance and arrangement. Numerical examples tested on the 5-Bus and 30-Bus IEEE system have demonstrated the approach proposed is effective.
