Abstract

Optimal joint rate and power allocations of a multimedia CDMA system are presented in a multicell network. The optimal data rate and power allocations are for both links (uplink and downlink) while assuring each user's QoS requirements, i.e., data rate requirement and application's BER constraint. The purpose of the resource allocation is to minimize the total transmission power for both link directions; this gives rise to maximum capacity since the capacity of a CDMA system is interference-limited. We show, through strict theoretical deduction, that the proposed allocation provides the optimal joint data rate and power allocation for both the uplink and the downlink in multicell multimedia CDMA systems.
