Abstract

Abstract A new process for the extracellular polysaccharides (EPS) production by the fed-batch cultivation of the archaebacterium Haloferax mediterranei is investigated. A process model for the batch part of the cultivation is identified by the parameters estimation on the basis of experimental data. The optimal starting point of the feed is defined by analysing of batch data and model simulations. A simple algorithm is proposed for the variation of glucose concentration value in the feeding solution during the experiments. The experimental results that test the control system lead to a significant increase of EPS production.
