Abstract

Design and experimental verification are presented in this Letter for a feedback-interferometric fiber laser microphone (FLM) based on the distributed Bragg reflector fiber laser (DBR-FLM) and the distributed feedback reflector fiber laser (DFB-FLM), optimized for power efficiency, response sensitivity, and linearity. First-principle self-consistent simulation has been performed to design the optimal DBR-FLM and DFB-FLM. The self-consistent simulation takes care of the laser power coupled Er/Yb rate equations and makes full use of the encompassing coupled mode theory for fast computation. The experimental results agreed well with the simulation results. A comparison between the DBR-FLM and the DFB-FLM is made and explained in terms of lasing power and noise performance.
