Abstract

Interest in the regulation of α,γ-diaminobutyric acid (DABA) in flatpea (Lathyrus sylvestris L.) tissues and concern about the influence that this compound might have on the health of ruminant live-stock that are fed flatpea forage prompted studies to develop a quantitative extraction procedure for this amino acid. Extracts were analyzed by high-performance liquid chromatography. The optimal procedure is compatible with a requirement for rapid, reliable, quantitative analysis of large numbers of samples
