Abstract
This work introduces the application and effectiveness of the Simplex Particle Swarm Optimization (simplex-PSO) algorithm for the optimal design of CMOS three-stage operational amplifier. Simplex-PSO is based on the mechanism of learning, competition and cooperation. The primary goal of this work is to optimize the MOS transistors' dimensions utilizing simplex-PSO to minimize the areas occupied by the circuits. Simplex-PSO based results are verified with CADENCE simulator. CADENCE based results exhibit that design criteria are met and essential working principles are contained. The results obtained using simplex-PSO proves that the performance is better than the previously reported techniques for MOS area, gain, power dissipation etc.
