Abstract

This paper details a permanent magnet synchronous motor(PMSM) design of the high-speed electric ducted fan with small blade diameter for private eVTOL. The key challenge in the design is to trade off specific power and temperature distribution under fixed outer diameter limit. This paper analyzes the influence of split ratio on specific current loading and loss. The appropriate split ratio and pole/slot combination of the motor are determined to improve the specific power of the motor and avoid excessive temperature rise. Two air-cooled heat dissipation modes corresponding to aircraft take-off and cruise process are adopted for thermal analysis of the motor. The simulation results prove the reliability and validity of the designed motor.
