Abstract

In this paper, a technique for reducing the cogging force in slotted permanent magnet linear synchronous motors (PMLSMs) is presented. A two-step minimization process that depends on the slotting and end effects is proposed. Taguchi's parameter method, coupled with 2-D and 3-D finite element analysis (FEA), is employed to minimize the cogging force.
