Abstract

The penetration of photovoltaic (PV) systems has been increased worldwide. These distributed PV systems with their intermittent feature can seriously affect the voltage regulation in distribution systems. In this paper, an optimal voltage control (OVC) method for unbalanced distribution networks (UDNs) is proposed. This OVC method considers: 1) the different types and configurations of voltage regulators, and 2) three-phase and single-phase step voltage regulators (SVRs). The proposed OVC method is efficient under different sun profiles, i.e., sunny or cloudy. Numerical simulations on the IEEE 123-node distribution test feeder have been performed. The results show that the proposed OVC method can effectively control the voltage in UDNs while mitigating voltage violations and keeping the voltage within the standard limits.
