Abstract

This paper is the further development of previous work[1], By making use of optimal prediction theory and relevant techniques[2], the optimum weighting function for predicting the dimensional accuracy of a series of workpieces being machined on an internal grinding machine was obtained. A compensator is attached to the internal grinding machine and connected to a micro-computer, which, using the obtained optimum weighting function, predicts the dimension of the following workpiece to be machined and gives the information to the compensator, which controls the machine to minimise the dimensional error. In modelling the optimum weighting function, the fact is taken into account that every workpiece dimension fed into the micro-computer is obtained under the control of the compensator. Mathematical models were constructed and the corresponding control schemes were depicted and experiments were carried out. It was proved by the experiments that the dimensional accuracy of the workpieces is raised by more than 50%. The scheme is relatively simple and easy to operate.
