Abstract
A nonlinear optimization technique applied to the control of current commutation pulses in inverters is discussed. An optimum control strategy is presented. With this control strategy, commutation failure under critical conditions was eliminated. A description of the inverter circuit and control circuit is provided. Analytical studies are verified by laboratory tests. These circuits are currently used in the inverter locomotives of the Swiss Federal Railways.
