Abstract

Performance index matrices for the linear control problem with a quadratic coat criterion are chosen such that the closed-loop system will have prescribed closed-loop poles, Two methods are considered : the direct method which is based on the sensitivity of the closed-loop poles with respect to changes in the performance index matrices, and the associated matrix method, which is based on the sensitivity of the eigenvalues of an associated matrix to performance index matrix changes. Computational procedures are suggested for both discrete and continuous systems and questions concerning the existence and uniqueness of the solutions are discussed for both methods.
