Abstract

This paper presents the optimal placement of capacitor banks in radial distribution system. For the purpose, capacitor placement optimized based upon the cost, size and location. In the past research work it has been noticed that the power factor correction improve the stability and efficiency of electrical power delivery. Also, in most of the research work the objective function is the reduction of power losses and the improvement in voltage profile. The reduction in power loss and the system voltage profile further depends upon the size and location of the capacitor placement. In this paper the capacitor placement is optimized based upon the methods for cost, size and location of capacitor bank to be installed in order to compensate for the reactive power demand by the load. For the purpose of capacitor placement in radial distribution system ETAP tool is to be used, which will optimize the capacitor placement problem for maximum cost saving and is computationally efficient. The proposed method is to be demonstrated on a standard IEEE-10 bus radial distribution system.
