Abstract

Nowadays, Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) become a very important tool in several domains such as: searching and rescuing operations, aerial surveying of crops, inspecting power lines and pipelines, delivering medical supplies to inaccessible regions. UAV can be classified into three main typologies depending on their method of flight. There are fixed-wing aircraft, rotary-wing aircraft, and flapping-wing aircraft. Rotary-wing aircraft is the typology that consumes more energy compared to other types. Hence, it is mandatory to optimize rotary-wing aircraft's energy consumption to achieve specific mission requirements. This paper presents the latest research done on energy optimization of rotary-wing aircraft. Then the feature of the most efficient rotary-wing aircraft in terms of energetics consumption is proposed based on weight optimization and control technique.
