Abstract

The NASA Orbiting Astronomical Observatory (OAO) is a precisely stabilized spacecraft designed to carry large photoelectric astronomical telescopes. General background-information is presented, and the specific optical systems planned currently for the Observatory are described. The optical sensors which are required for attitude stabilization and control are emphasized in the discussion.
