Abstract
The great variety of materials examined in a forensic science laboratory requires the use of many techniques and instruments. Most of these involve optical components, and a brief description of some applications of some of these is outlined. The two most commonly used instruments are the microscope and the camera; some unusual applications of the latter are described. The paper also presents some applications of spectrophotometers, x-ray diffraction equipment, neutron activation analysis, and gas chromatography.
