Abstract

An energy-recovery linac (ERL), which produces an electron beam of high-brightness and ultrashort pulse, is expected to play an important role in future accelerators. We review the following optics and beam dynamics issues relevant to ERLs: design of a recirculation loop and merger, suppression of beam-breakup, compensation of emittance growth, etc.
