Abstract

A Cs vapour laser using Freon-14 as the buffer gas has been demonstrated. All operating parameters of this laser (threshold, output power, slope efficiency) are similar to a Cs laser operating with an ethane buffer gas. No contamination of the gain medium was observed at operating temperatures below 100°C, while at higher temperatures such contamination appears and leads to lasing degradation.
