Abstract

This article introduces a new approach for three-dimensional ultrasound imaging using a line-focused ultrasound transducer. Based on Schlieren imaging approach, the presented method demonstrates real-time, two-dimensional optical visualization of ultrasound waves using a CCD camera and presents fast three-dimensional ultrasound imaging capability using a continuous scanning approach. An experimental setup was constructed and a target sample was successfully imaged using the proposed approach. Compared to the conventional ultrasound imaging approaches, this approach can improve the imaging acquisition time significantly and has a potential to be implemented for fast three-dimensional ultrasound imaging. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
