Abstract

Six 1-(2-pyridylazo)-2-naphthol (PAN) complexes: Pr(PAN)3, Gd(PAN)3, Gd0.99Eu0.01(PAN)3, Gd0.99Sm0.01(PAN)3, Gd0.99Tb0.01(PAN)3 and Gd0.98Nd0.01Yb0.01(PAN)3 have been synthesized and characterized by elemental chemical analysis, Fourier transform far-infrared, electron UV–VIS and emission measurements. The probability of the luminescence originating from the lanthanide excited states has been recognized using femtosecond laser excitation. The quantum chemical DFT calculations of the vibrational and electron levels of the ligand were performed and used for the discussion of the optical properties of the studied materials.
