Abstract

AbstractHigh optical quality La3Ga5SiO14 (abbreviated as LGS):Tm single crystals with dopant concentrations of 1 at% Tm3+ ions were grown by the Czochralski method. The absorption spectrum and fluorescence spectrum of LGS:Tm crystals were measured at room temperature. Based on Judd–Ofelt method, the spectroscopic parameters were obtained, such as intensity parameters Ωt (t = 2, 4, 6), the experimental and theoretical oscillator strength, spontaneous emission probabilities, the radiative lifetime, and the fluorescence branching ratios. The calculated results showed that LGS:Tm is a potential solid‐state laser crystal and has probably realized the 1721 nm and 786 nm laser emission. (© 2007 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co.
