Abstract

Raman scattering of cylinders of GaAs and emission from free-standing and overgrown quantum dots is reported. The cylinder size allows coupling to surface phonons. The integrated luminescence intensity of quantum dots of diameters between 75 and 350 nm is found to scale with the emitting volume before and after overgrowth. The dot sizes studied in this work are not small enough to observe 0-D quantisation.
