Abstract
Injection-locked distributed feedback (DFB) semiconductor lasers, with strong single longitudinal mode selection provided by the distributed grating are found to be appropriate for optical phase shift keying (PSK) modulation. Both small-signal analysis and large-signal numerical simulations are performed on the optical PSK modulation properties. The main limitations are found to arise from the anomalous bandwidth reduction near the edge of the locking range and the time needed to damp the relaxation oscillation. By the tradeoff of the two effects, parameter optimization is obtained. >
