Abstract

Abstract We prepared Ni2MnAl Heusler alloy and measured the optical conductivity (OC) spectra by using a spectroscopic ellipsometry in the 0.5– 5.0 eV range. In the measured energy range the OC spectra exhibit two peaks; one at ∼1.7 eV and the other at ∼3.7 eV . We have calculated the electronic structures and OC spectra of the Ni2MnAl alloy in the L21 structure for both paramagnetic (PM) and ferromagnetic (FM) phases using the WIEN2k package. The calculated OC spectra could not successfully reproduce the measured OC spectra for both PM and FM phases. A more sophisticated method of calculation is suggested.
