Abstract

Near-IR transmission spectra of vacuum-evaporated CdTe thin films grown at different temperatures and rates are studied, as well as the effect of thermal annealing on the spectra. The conditions for the preparation of films with a high transmission and a well-defined absorption edge are determined. The refractive index, absorption coefficient and optical band gap of the films are obtained from the transmission spectra. The optical band gap is shown to be associated with direct interband transitions.
