Abstract

Zn0.5Mn0.5Te and Zn0.5Mg0.5Te:Co2+ single crystals were grown by chemical transport reaction (CTR) method which is applied to the temperature modulation method. The energy gaps of the grown single crystals at 298 K are 2.340 eV for Zn0.5Mg0.5Te and 2.213 eV for Zn0.5Mg0.5Te:Co2+. The temperature dependence of the energy gap is well represented by the Varshni equation. Impurity optical absorption of Zn0.5Mg0.5Te:Co2+ single crystal is described by the electronic transitions between energy levels of Co2+ ion which is sited at Td symmetry point in the crystal.
