Abstract

The independent-quasiparticle approximation to calculating the optical properties of solids is extended to account for dynamical effects, namely, the energy dependence of the GW self-energy. We use a simple but realistic model of such energy dependence. We find that the inclusion of dynamical effects reduces considerably the calculated absorption spectrum and makes the agreement with experiment worse. \textcopyright{} 1996 The American Physical Society.
